MICHIGAN CITY – Blue Chip Casino, Hotel & Spa announced plans to add nearly 15,000 square feet of meeting space.
Construction is expected to start before year’s end with a projected completion by fall 2019, Blue Chip said in a statement. Once completed, Blue Chip will have more than 45,000 square feet of rentable event space.
“This expansion is another example of our commitment to the Michigan City community and the state of Indiana, further strengthening our reputation as this region’s premier tourism, entertainment and meeting destination,” said Ted Bogich, executive vice president of operations for Boyd Gaming, operator of Blue Chip. “Based on the tremendous demand we are seeing for meeting space today, we are confident this project will allow us to significantly grow our meeting and convention business, further diversifying our customer base and introducing thousands of people each year to Blue Chip’s unique brand of hospitality.”
Blue Chip presently operates 31,000 square feet of event and meeting space, including the 15,000-square-foot Stardust Event Center. The expansion will add another 14,800 square feet of event space, which will feature a new 11,000-square-foot ballroom that can be divided into six smaller rooms.
The meeting space expansion is Boyd Gaming’s latest investment in Blue Chip. The last major project was a refurbishment and redesign of Blue Chip’s original 184-room hotel tower, which was completed in 2016.
