GRIFFITH – Lake Area United Way has presented its Calvin E. Bellamy and R. Gary Bradley Lifetime Achievement Award to John Beebe for his community service on behalf of LAUW and organized labor.
Beebe, 67, of Highland, is a long-time supporter of Boy Scouts. As a Union Counselor, he championed community service and promoted union volunteerism. He also served as a labor representative on LAUW’s Allocation Committee for years.
“What is perhaps most impressive is John’s unselfish devotion to Northwest Indiana through his commitment to disaster response and preparedness. Since the 2008 floods John has been a United Way volunteer almost full-time, initially volunteering in the clean-up phase and then as Construction Committee Chair for Lake Area Regional Recovery of Indiana which was created by the United Ways servicing Northwest Indiana in response to the floods,” said Bellamy.
