SOUTH BEND – Beacon Health System, which includes Elkhart General Hospital and Memorial Hospital of South Bend, have received the 2012 HealthGrades Patient Safety Excellence Award.
Both hospitals were among the top 5 percent of all U.S. hospitals in patient safety. The study finds that Medicare patients at Patient Safety Excellence Award hospitals were 48 percent less likely to experience one of 13 preventable safety events compared to hospitals in the bottom 5 percent.
