EAST CHICAGO – Ameristar Casino has signed a contract with Southeast Cleaning of Pompano Beach, Fla., to take over its housekeeping and laundry duties. As a result, all 69 of the casino’s housekeepers were laid off.
The employees are being encouraged to apply for jobs with Southeast Cleaning. The laid off employees were not members of Unite Here Local 1, which represents 200 other employees at the casino. Ameristar has 1,236 employees.
