Hammond-based Alverno Laboratories is launching the second of three new diagnostic tools to help patients receive test results faster.

The diagnostic testing service is partnering with Ibex Medical Analytics to implement the Phillips IntelliSite Pathology Solution, which uses artificial intelligence to analyze tissue samples.

Ibex Breast will help pathologists in Illinois and Indiana with expedited cancer diagnosis. Ibex Prostate already is being use by Alverno. A gastric component is coming soon.

“That pain of waiting means you don’t sleep that night, and if it’s another night, you don’t sleep that night,” said Sam Terese, CEO and president of Alverno Laboratories, in a press release. “It’s speeding up that result into the hands of clinicians and patients, eliminating those sleepless nights and ensuring that it is the highest possible quality result that any lab can deliver. That’s what Alverno has always been about.”

The system also brings advanced cancer diagnosis closer to home.

“At Alverno Laboratories, every innovative program we introduce is designed with our patients in mind,” Terese said.

Alverno, which was founded in 1999, is a joint operation with Franciscan Alliance and Ascension Illinois. It operates more than 30 laboratories in hospitals.
