GARY – Gary Chicago International Airport has announced that starting Feb. 15, twice weekly round trip passenger service will begin to the Sanford Orlando International Airport in Florida through Allegiant Airlines.

The passenger service is the first at the airport since 2007 when Sky Value USA filed bankruptcy. Previously, passenger service was available at Gary through Pan Am from 1999 to 2002; Southeast Airlines for 10 months in 2004; and Hooters Air in 2004 and 2005.

Interim airport director Steven Landry said the partnership with Allegiant is a positive step for the airport.
