Lubeznik Center for the Arts presents speaker Patric McCoy, president of Diasporal Rhythms, a non-profit organization of passionate collectors of contemporary art from Chicago's African American community on February 19, 6-7:30 PM (CST). McCoy will discuss the influence collecting has in determining which artworks and artists come to be considered significant in art history.

In honor of Black History Month, LCA hosts a program that celebrates the contributions of African Americans in the arts. “The idea of one man collecting so much art by local artists intrigued me and gave me a sense of McCoy's commitment to contributing to his own spirit and culture.” said Janet Bloch, LCA Education Director. McCoy has amassed 1,000 artworks, 90% by Chicago artists, over several decades and will share images of some of the artwork in his collection and insight about the importance of supporting local artists.
