Northwest Health – La Porte and St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart both received A grades from the Leapfrog Group's fall 2024 Hospital Safety Grade.

Almost 3,000 hospitals nationwide were evaluated for patient safety by an independent National Expert Panel.

“Preventable deaths and harm in hospitals have been a major policy concern for decades. So, it is good news that Leapfrog’s latest Safety Grades reveal that hospitals across the country are making notable gains in patient safety, saving countless lives,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, in a press release. “Next, we need hospitals to accelerate this progress — because no one should have to die from a preventable error in a hospital.”

Hospitals that received a B grade in the Region include:

  • Community Hospital, Munster
  • Elkhart General Hospital
  • Franciscan Health Michigan City
  • Franciscan Health Munster
  • Northwest Health – Porter, Valparaiso
  • St. Catherine Hospital, East Chicago
