RENSSELAER – Carpenter Creek Cellars, the newest winery in Indiana, has opened in Jasper County. The winery is on Jordan Road between Remington and Rensselaer.
Carpenter Creek has been a two-year project. It opened with six wines ranging from dry to sweet. The production team uses grapes sourced from around the Midwest.
“We don’t want to b3e a California winery,” said Randy Rottler, head winemaker. “We are in Indiana and we want to give our customers a taste of Midwestern fruit at its best.”
The winery plans to use grapes from vineyards in Michigan, Indiana and Missouri, along with grapes it produces. Carpenter Creek has planted one acre of traminette white wine grapes, which will be mature enough to being producing wine in two years.
Carpenter Creek Cellars is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST and from 12 to 5 p.m. EST on Sunday. For more information, call (219) 866-4334 or e-mail carpentercreekcellars@gmail.com.
