VALPARAISO – Derrick Carter, a Valparaiso University School of Law professor, has been named the Jack A. Hiller Distinguished Faculty Award winner.

The award annually honors a VU Law School professor who is an exceptional teacher, scholar and role model. He joined the faculty in 1991 and has taught and done research in criminal law and criminal constitutional procedure.

“Professor Carter’s contributions to the life and work of the law school extend well beyond the classroom,” said Jay Conison, dean of the law school.

Carter received the Distinguished Law Review Article on Physician Assisted Suicide award in 1996. Before joining VU, he spent 17 years as an appellate defender for the Michigan Supreme Court where he won a Distinguished Brief Award.
