After launching an open contest last fall to find a design for a new logo, the University of Saint Francis says it will continue working on a refresh.

The university announced May 3 it selected a submission by university alumnus Jeff Dollens as the winner of its logo redesign contest. However, instead of using Dollens’ design for a new logo, the college said it may use elements of his design in other ways, though didn’t provide any specifics.

For his efforts, Dollens, who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from USF in 1999, received a $5,000 grand prize. The contest also sought entries for a new monogram, but a winner was not named by the university.

“Congratulations to Jeff Dollens on his winning entry,” said Dr. Eric Albert Zimmer, USF president. “Thank you to everyone who took the time to create and submit designs. We greatly appreciate your interest in the University of Saint Francis.”

The university announced the contest in the fall and requested entries by Feb. 25. Entries were reviewed between March and April.

The university’s current logo has been used for more than 20 years. When the contest was announced, the university said it sought a new design to usher in a new era for USF.

The University of Saint Francis has campuses in Crown Point and Fort Wayne. It recently dedicated a $7 million expansion, which doubled the size its Crown Point campus.
