Young adults from around the Region who want to learn some job skills and earn an income have an opportunity through the SummerWorks program.
The initiative presented by Center of Workforce Innovations and the Northwest Indiana Workforce Board is offering two free training programs for young adults between 16 and 24.
One program is the TechWorks summer experience, featuring a virtual training platform with some in-person components.
Participants will earn an IT Fundamentals Certification and Level One Customer Service Badge, CWI said. The program includes a paid work experience for up to $15 an hour with a local employer.
Ready for Work is the second option where participants complete a personal career assessment based on their interests. The program explores budgeting and financial literacy, learning soft skills that are important to employers, gaining a mind-set on what it takes to succeed in the workforce, and the mindset needed to start a business.
Space is limited and anyone interested must complete an application. SummerWorks partners include JobWorks and Goodwill.
