BEVERLY SHORES – The Save the Dunes Gift Shop on U.S. 12 in Beverly Shores opened in 1972, but come Aug. 31, it will shut its doors for good.

Save the Dunes has operated the store with volunteers, but said it’s becoming more difficult to maintain regular hours with nothing but volunteers. As older volunteers have stepped away from the gift shop, fewer younger people have come forward to fill the gaps.

The gift shops sold everything from handmade jewelry to guide books to South Shore posters and other items connected to the dunes area.
