GARY – Methodist Hospitals are working with the American Red Cross to encourage blood donation this summer.

“Any disaster, man-made or natural, can result in people being injured and needing blood,” said Sharyn Whitman, CEO for the Indiana-Ohio Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross. “While people often join together to help after a disaster, it’s just as important to be organized and prepared today for when disaster strikes.”

Those who donate blood through Sept. 11 will be entered into a region-wide drawing to win free gas for a year – a $3,000 gift card.

To donate, schedule an appointment by calling 1-800-733-2767. Donors must be at least 17 years old, meet height and weight requirements and be in generally good health.
