Purdue Northwest Special Group Recognition License PlateHAMMOND and WESTVILLE – We’re proud of Purdue Northwest and we want to show it.

Beginning in January 2018, you, too, can sport your pride with the new PNW special group recognition (SGR) license plate – and support student scholarships while you do it.

Indiana motorists are encouraged to purchase the plate featuring the image of a lion head, the university mascot, which will help fund the PNW Legacy Scholarship program. Upgrades from the standard license plate to the new PNW plate will be available through the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) when you renew, or register a new vehicle, online or at Indiana license branches.

Purdue Northwest applied earlier this year to the BMV to establish a SGR license plate supporting scholarships for Indiana students. The BMV recently approved PNW’s application based upon a favorable recommendation by a legislative committee that reviews each SGR application.

“This is an exciting additional opportunity for the community to be involved in supporting future generations of Purdue Northwest students. Many alumni and community members in Indiana have been asking for a PNW special group recognition license plate, and we are thrilled to be able to fulfill this request,” said Chancellor Thomas L. Keon. “This option gives you the chance to directly support your alma mater and local campus.”

PNW Legacy Scholarship fund
The PNW Legacy Scholarship is an endowed scholarship fund recognizing academic achievements and leadership potential in Indiana students whose parent, sibling or grandparent is a Purdue Northwest graduate. This scholarship will be funded by proceeds from the PNW license plate.

With the purchase of each PNW license plate, an annual $25 tax-deductible contribution is made to the scholarship fund.
