HAMMOND – Purdue University Calumet has announced it is buying the Kaplan Commons building about half a mile from the campus near Indianapolis Boulevard and 171st Street.

Purdue is spending $1 million for the 18,000-square-foot building, which will require another $1 million in improvements. The site will be converted into a business development center for concepts developed at Purdue Calumet.

The center will be operated separately from the Purdue Research Park in Merrillville that’s operated by the main campus in West Lafayette.
