Porter Health Offers Support Groups in September

Porter Health Care System will offer the following monthly support groups in September:

Lung Cancer Support Group

If you’ve been diagnosed with lung cancer, Porter Regional Hospital offers a support group to provide a safe and open environment to share your experiences and struggles, and connect you with local and national resources to aid during your time of need. Meetings are open to anyone affected by lung cancer, including survivors, family members, friends and caregivers. The support group meets on the second Wednesday of each month. The next meeting will be from 11 a.m. to Noon, Wednesday, Sept. 10 at Porter’s Education & Rehabilitation Center, 1401 Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso. No registration is necessary. For more information, contact Cheryl Wallace at 219-983-6171 or Ray Hewlett at 219-628-1202.

Diabetes Support Group
Whether you are newly diagnosed or have been living with diabetes for awhile, it is important that you take care of yourself to reduce the chance for complications later on. Eight times a year, Porter Regional Hospital hosts a support group where a variety of topics are discussed and shared, and a nurse educator or dietitian will be on-hand to facilitate. The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at Porter’s Education & Rehabilitation Center, 1401 Calumet Ave. in Valparaiso, and the topic will be exercise and diabetes. For more information, call 219-263-7992.

Ostomy Support Group
Porter Regional Hospital offers a support group for ostomy patients. The group helps patients learn from others, share concerns and talk with one of the hospital’s certified wound ostomy and continence nurses. Held on a monthly basis, the next meeting will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 25 in the Community Room at Porter Regional Hospital, 85 East US Highway 6 in Valparaiso.
