The Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission is hosting a series of meetings, seeking community input on its 2050 regional plan for Lake, LaPorte and Porter counties.
Upcoming meetings include:
– Thursday, May 17, 5:30 p.m., Steel City Academy Cafeteria, 2650 W. 35th Ave., Gary
– Monday, May 21, 4 p.m., Metro Center – Gary Public Transportation Center Board Room, 390 Washington St., Gary
– Tuesday, May 22, 3 p.m., Hammond Academy of Science and Technology Engineering Room, 33 Muenich Court, Hammond
The 2050 regional plan will examine potential issues that may impact transportation, the environment, land use and economic development in the region the next 30 years.
NIRPC expects to work on the plan through the fall and then determine strategies to begin developing an action plan by either January or February 2019. A draft of the plan may be ready for the public to offer comment by spring 2019.
NIRPC hopes to have a finished plan ready for state and federal approval by summer 2019.
