Northwest Indiana home sales slow in June

Sales of existing homes in Northwest Indiana fell 3.4 percent in June when compared to the same month a year ago.

Sales of existing homes in Northwest Indiana slowed in June, according to the latest monthly sales report from the Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors.

A total of 1,152 closed sales were logged in June, down 3.4 percent from 1,193 closed sales in June 2017, the realtor’s association reported. The association represents Jasper, Lake, LaPorte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Starke counties.

While sales were down, the median sale price of homes was $165,000, up 3.2 percent from $159,900 a year ago. The average sale price was $192,063, up 4.1 percent from $184,543 a year ago.

The realtor's association reports new listings for June totaled 1,504, down 0.7 percent from 1,515 in June 2017. Available inventory in June measured at a four-month supply, down 11.1 percent from a 4.5-month supply recorded in June 2017.

Despite the drop in monthly sales in June, year-to-date closed sales remained ahead of last year's pace. Year-to-date sales in the Region totaled 5,101 through the end of June, up 1.7 percent from 5,018 homes sold through the same period a year ago.
