Economic development organizations from parts of the Region and Michiana areas are working together to collect salary and benefits data from employers in their respective markets.

The South Bend – Elkhart Regional Partnership, the Economic Development Corp. Michigan City and other economic development organizations from Elkhart, Fulton, LaGrange, LaPorte, Marshall, and St. Joseph counties in Indiana, as well as Berrien and Cass counties in Michigan are collaborating on the survey project.

The survey is open through June 15 with a goal of gathering key components of what businesses in these markets offer their employees.

“The knowledge of what wages and benefits employers are offering is crucial to keeping our region competitive,” said Clarence Hulse, executive director of the EDCMC. “We are striving for strong participation in this vital survey, and all businesses that take part will receive the results and have access to this key data.”

The confidential survey will compile information on benefits, including health insurance plans and costs, time off, retirement plans, financial incentives, workplace practices, such as training opportunities, wellness incentives and childcare assistance.

Information collected from the survey will be combined with curated wage data published by EMSi, a labor market analytics firm, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics to develop a comprehensive 2021 Wages and Benefits report for the participating communities, which will be available in August.

“The South Bend – Elkhart Regional Wages and Benefits Survey and Report is a highly valuable tool that has helped our company in understanding not only the big picture, but a detailed look at trends on compensation and benefits in the region,” said Tammie Nelson, chief financial officer or FDC Graphic Films Inc. in South Bend. “The report allows our company to gain insights and a competitive analysis as we make important decisions.”
