NIPSCO accepting applications for public safety education, responder training grants

June 25, 2021 – By Larry Avila

Seeking Grants for an Association, a Small Business or for Research

Merrillville-based NIPSCO is accepting applications for its public safety education and responder training grant program.

Organizations from the utility’s Northern Indiana service area are encouraged to apply. Northern Indiana Public Service Co. serves approximately 820,000 natural gas and 470,000 electric customers.

Grants are available in amounts ranging between $500 and $5,000. Applications will be accepted through Aug. 13 with grant awards announced the week of Aug. 23.

Grant opportunities include, but are not limited to, community and youth public safety education  programming and training for first responders, police and fire department fire and carbon monoxide  safety programs, education and training in the prevention of damage to underground natural gas lines,  and child-related safety education.

Grant funding is not intended to cover equipment purchases other than tools needed to support public safety education programs and training, the company said.
