Munster-based Peoples Bank and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis have awarded Jeremi Vocational Institute a $25,000 grant as part of the 2020 Elevate Small Business Grant program.

The vocational school in Munster was one of 21 applicants across Indiana and Michigan to receive the grant, developed by FHLBank to strengthen communities and encourage growth of business-bank relationships.

Jeremi Vocational Institute provides career training and certification courses to students in Northwest Indiana and surrounding areas. The awarded funds will be used to purchase classroom equipment and to help launch a web-based learning management system as well as train staff to conduct online instruction.

“The grant will enable us to provide students with a robust, web-based curriculum that will prepare them for securing high-quality jobs in the field of healthcare,” said Sandra Dafiaghor, president of Jeremi Vocational Institute. “This is a win-win for the Region because it creates employment opportunities for underserved members of the community, and equips local healthcare facilities with highly-skilled, certified healthcare professionals that are currently in demand.”

As a member institution of the FHLBank Indianapolis, Peoples Bank has provided an extensive portfolio of products and services to clients and business owners within the Northwest Indiana and South Chicagoland communities.

“Education is the key to success, and provides stability within our communities,” Alexius Barber, vice president, Community Relationship Officer at Peoples Bank. “This sponsorship is just one example of how Peoples Bank fulfills its mission to help its customers and communities become more successful.”
