MERRILLVILLE – The Board of Zoning Appeals in Merrillville has granted a variance that will allow Modern Forge Co. to build a 65-foot tall addition onto its existing building. The building height is needed in order to house equipment.
The addition will house the company’s forging machinery. Construction is expected to begin in the spring on the addition, which is more than twice the height of the company’s existing 30-foot tall building.
Modern Forge is moving to Merrillville from Blue Island, Ill., and plans to invest $17 million in the building. The move will create 240 jobs.
