Methodist involved in cancer study

MERRILLVILLE – Methodist Hospitals with working with the American Cancer Society’s Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3) to conduct a study in Northwest Indiana that has the potential to change the face of cancer for future generations.

Men and women between the ages of 30 and 65 who have never been diagnosed with cancer are needed to participate in the study, which will involved half a million people across the United States and Puerto Rico.

“Many individuals diagnosed with cancer struggle to answer the question, ‘What caused my cancer?’ In many cases, we don’t know the answer,” said Alpa V. Patel, principal investigator of CPS-3.

“Methodist Hospitals is proud to play a role in making this landmark study a success,” said Ian E. McFadden, president and CEO of Methodist Hospitals. “Providing Northwest Indiana residents the opportunity to participate in this research is a part of our commitment to improving the health of our community through cancer research, education and treatment.”
