Methodist Hospitals announced the opening of a GERD Center at their Southlake Campus in Merrillville for the treatment and management of patients with GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease) and other related conditions.  The GERD Center provides patients access to a full array of diagnostics, treatments, and technologies that accurately diagnose and provide a more permanent solution to this condition.  GERD is a chronic digestive disease that is caused by gastric acid flowing from the stomach into the esophagus.  This acid irritates the lining of the esophagus and causes GERD signs and symptoms. “The center is designed to streamline, diagnose and improve care for chronic disease sufferers.  Once patients are seen at the clinic, our goal is to take them from complaint to diagnostics, to a therapy plan within one to two weeks,” said Daniel Hurwich, M.D. a board certified gastroenterologist, at the Methodist Hospitals GERD Center.

A GERD Center Nurse Navigator coordinates all aspects of care from initial screening and treatment to follow-up.  The GERD Center is located in Methodist Hospital’s Outpatient Surgery Center at the Southlake Campus in Merrillville, Indiana.  Patients may call 219-757-7534 directly or be referred by their physician.
