MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. – MCTD, Inc., a Michigan City designer and manufacturer of custom machinery, tooling and fixtures has acquired Quality Industrial Services of LaPorte, according to a joint announcement from MCTD President Timothy J. Johnson and Richard Weller, owner of QIS.
Details of the acquisition were not revealed, but Johnson and Weller said all three employees at QIS retained their jobs and will work from MCTD’s 10,600-square-foot facility in the Winski Industrial Park on Michigan City’s west side.
Weller has been retained as a consultant, said Johnson.
Johnson and Weller call the acquisition a good fit for both operations. “Less than 10 percent of my customers were his customers. We’re very hopeful that this synergy of our two skill sets coming together will help both companies.”
MCTD is a component of a holding company called TMAK, Inc., which was set up by Johnson. He said QIS will be operated as a division of TMAK, Inc.
Weller added that both companies worked closely together on projects and were comfortable with each other. “We build our machines over there and at times, three of the four of us would be working over there. It makes sense to go under one roof.”
Weller says he’s thrilled his employees can continue doing what they’ve been doing, and Johnson said he’s pleased because he’s picking up decades of knowledge and expertise.
