American Mattress, Tropical Smoothie Café and Crumbl Cookies are coming to Merrillville later this year.
The three stores will open in a retail center at 1600 79th Ave. near Costco and Lowes. Work will begin in the next month or two with an opening scheduled in the third quarter, said Brett McDermott, co-founder and senior vice president of Latitude Commercial, who represented the landlord.
The Tropical Smoothie Café will feature a drive-thru. The company has headquarters in Atlanta and features smoothies such as “avocolada,” “acai berry boost” and “mango magic,” among many others. The also have a menu of flatbreads, wraps, quesadillas, sandwiches and salads. This location will be its first franchise in Northwest Indiana.
Crumbl Cookies also has locations at 819 Joliet St. in Dyer, 1290 E. Ireland Road in South Bend, 5230 N. Main St. in Mishawaka, and 2310 Laporte Ave. in Valparaiso. It's first store opened in Utah in 2017 and features a weekly rotating menu of baked goods. The company now has more than 600 bakeries in 47 states.
Elk Grove Village, Illinois,-based American Mattress was founded in 1988 and has more than 50 stores, including 5172 Franklin St. in Michigan City, 134 Indianapolis Boulevard in Schererville and 6204 U.S. Highway 6 in Portage, 2710 Laporte Ave. in Valparaiso.
McDermott said the developer also plans to build another similar center near the Culver's, 1579 E. 79th Ave., Merrillville.
