HAMMOND – City officials, along with representatives from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, have announced that a leak in an underground fuel pipe has been fixed.
The leak was first discovered Thursday, Aug. 19, and the one-inch break in the pipe was repaired Sunday. Final checks on the pipe owned by the BP Whiting Refinery are to be made today. The leak was near the intersection of White Oak and Walnut avenues near 175th Street.
Once officials determine that the pipe is no longer leaking, street and sidewalk repairs will be made.
