Ivy Tech Names New President

MICHIGAN CITY — Ivy Tech Community College has named Dr. Peter Linden as the new president of its Michigan City campus. He will assume his new role Aug. 1.

Dr. Linden’s most recent position was as Senior Academic Dean of Career & Technical Education at Joliet Junior College. He succeeds Rick Soria, who left Ivy Tech in February to become president of Miami Dade College’s Wolfson campus.

Dr. Linden has a Ph.D. from Loyola University of Chicago in Higher Education and Policy Leadership.  He also holds an MBA from North Park University, a Bachelor of Science in Business and Management from Northeastern Illinois University, and an Associate of Occupational Studies from the Culinary Institute of America, Hyde Park, N.Y.

After embarking on a career in the culinary arts and hospitality industries, working in Dallas and Denver, Dr. Linden landed in Chicago with UAL Corp. He then entered the field of education. He progressed from instructor to program coordinator of Business Education, and then department chair of Technology & Education at Chicago State University.  From there he advanced to associate dean of education in the Career and Technical Education Department, McHenry County College.  Following two years there, he moved to his current position at Joliet Junior College.

His background includes managing large grants in addition to securing support from corporate partners.

“Dr. Linden has a wealth of experience in instruction, curriculum, student success, fundraising, and administration,” Dr. Thomas Coley, chancellor of Ivy Tech’s Northwest and North Central regions, said in a statement.  “He brings the skills and attitude the Michigan City campus needs to contribute to student success and community engagement.”
