Indiana’s jobless rate is in a holding pattern.
The Indiana Department of Workforce Development, citing Bureau of Labor Statistics data, said the state’s jobless rate for November was 3.2%, where it has been since September.
The monthly unemployment rate is a government indicator, which reflects the number of unemployed people seeking employment within the prior four weeks as a percentage of the labor force.
Indiana’s labor force had a net increase of 346 over the previous month, the state said. This was a result of an increase of 308 unemployed residents and an increase of 38 employed residents.
Indiana's total labor force, which includes both Hoosiers employed and those seeking employment, stood at 3.38 million in November, and the state’s 64.4% labor force participation rate remains above the national rate of 63.2%.
The state said private sector employment has grown by 8,100 during the year and has increased by 800 from the previous month.
The state said the monthly increase is primarily due to gains in the manufacturing (2,400) and the private educational and health services (1,800) sectors. Gains were partially offset by losses in the professional and business services (-2,300) and the leisure and hospitality (-700) sectors.
Total private employment stood at 2,731,800 November, which is 300 below the December 2018 peak, the state said.
