The four finalists for the chancellor’s post at Indiana University Northwest are scheduled to visit the Gary campus and meet representatives of the IUN community over the next two weeks.
A search committee, led by IU Kokomo Chancellor Susan Sciame-Giesecke, identified the finalists who will meet with IUN faculty, staff, students, alumni and community members during scheduled three-day visits. The successful candidate will succeed William Lowe, who is stepping down as chancellor on July 31 after serving the role for 10 years.
Indiana University, which has been searching for a replacement since May 2019, expects a new IUN chancellor will be approved by the college’s board of trustees during its April meeting. Lowe announced in an email to IUN staff and students in April that he would be stepping down as chancellor to return to researching and teaching part-time.
The finalists and their campus visit dates are:
Walter Jacobs, dean of the college of social sciences and professor in the department of sociology and interdisciplinary social sciences at San José State University, Jan. 26 to 28.
Vicki Román-Lagunas, executive vice chancellor for academic affairs and professor of Spanish at Indiana University Northwest, Jan. 29 to 31.
Michael J. Laney, provost, vice president for academic affairs and chief academic officer, and professor of mass communications at Savannah State University, Feb. 2 to 4.
Ken Iwama, vice president for economic development, continuing studies and government relations at the City University of New York, College of Staten Island, Feb. 5 to 7.
Following the visits, the search committee will present its assessment to IU Executive Vice President John Applegate and IU President Michael McRobbie, who will select a candidate to be considered for approval by the IU Board of Trustees.
IU Northwest more than 70 undergraduate, graduate and pre-professional degree programs. It has nearly 4,000 students and about 350 faculty members.
