Illiana Artists display benefits children

            HAMMOND – The Illiana Artists will showcase their work at the Indiana Welcome Center April 7 through May 5. The exhibit features paintings, photographs, sculptures and decorated chairs for the “Charish” the Children art project.

            An opening reception will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday. A live water-color demonstration will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17.

            The “Charish” the Children art project is a chair decorating contest sponsored by Prevent Child Abuse Lake County. It is designed to raise awareness of child neglect and abuse and to encourage people to value and cherish children. Middle and high school students from Lake County participated in the project.

            The Indiana Welcome Center is at the Interstate 94 and Kennedy Avenue interchange. It is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call (219) 989-7979.
