Home sales remain strong in Northwest Indiana

Homes for sale in Northwest Indiana don’t remain on the market long, based on the latest real estate data for the Region.

The Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors, citing data from the Indiana Association of Realtors, reported 865 closed sales in March, up 4.5% from 828 when compared to March 2020. The median sale price was $189,900, up 6.4% from $178,500 a year earlier.

Available homes in GNIAR’s service area were scarce in March. Data showed 590 homes for sale, down 72.8% from 2,172 homes available the same month last year. The Region’s realtors’ group covers Jasper, Lake, La Porte, Newton, Porter, Pulaski and Starke counties.

Homes are going on the market in the Region. New listings in March totaled 1,070, which isn’t as many as the 1,129 new listings recorded in March 2020.

Sellers in March received 97.8% of list price, which was 2.5% higher than the 95.4% reported in March 2020.

The average sale price of homes in March was $222,166, up 10.4% from $201,155 in March 2020.

Closed sales in the Region year-to-date totaled 2,219, up 8.7% from 2,042 through the same period last year.
