Hammond Urban Academy set to open

HAMMOND – The Hammond Academy of Science and Technology will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, at 33 Muenich Court in downtown.

Mayor Thomas M. McDermott Jr., the Hammond Urban Academy Board of Director and officials from HAST will take part in the ceremony, which includes placement of two time capsules in the cornerstones.

HAST received a charter from Ball State University and is Hammond’s first charter school. The school has partnered with Purdue University Calumet to create a project based learning environment where students study and solve real life problems.
