Goodwill Industries of Michiana Inc. is preparing to open its new retail store and career center in Plymouth.

The new facility at 1547 Pilgrim Lane in the Pilgrim Place Shopping Center on U.S. Route 30. Goodwill is hosting a grand opening and ribbon cutting at 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 14.

The store opens to customers at 9 a.m.

“The Plymouth Goodwill Store will have an open layout with wide aisles and a large furniture department,” said Mark Ziegert, vice president of retail sales of Goodwill Michiana. “There will be a work area to process attended drive-thru donations so we’ll be able to put the items we receive directly on the sales floor.”

Ziegert said wall graphics have been placed in the store to show shoppers and guests how donations help the community.

The career center was named after Larry Neff, the former president and CEO of Goodwill Michiana. It provides free job search assistance for anyone seeking employment as well as workshops.

“Mr. Neff’s diligence and careful management brought growth to Goodwill Industries of Michiana, and provided the foundation to become the thriving organization it is today,” said Debie Coble, president and CEO, of Goodwill Michiana.  “The (career center) will serve a need in the Plymouth area for an accessible employment resource.”

Goodwill broke ground on the store in March. The new Plymouth store was expected to create 25 jobs.
