            MERRILLVILLE – Former Hammond Mayor Duane Dedelow Jr. has taken over as executive director of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Gary.

            Dedelow, who also served two terms as chairman of the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, is expected to be ordained as a deacon in June. He takes over for Sister Jean Augustine.

            Catholic Charities has offices in Gary, Hammond, Crown Point, Michigan City and Portage and provides services to the needy as well as counseling, marriage preparation and housing and adoption services.
