Phil Newbold will serve as interim chief executive officer at Mishawaka-based Center for Hospice Care. The board of directors is conducting a national search for a permanent replacement for former CEO Mark Murray.

Murray left the not-for-profit organization at the end of 2022 after 32 years. He was CEO for 25 years.

Newbold most recently served as CEO of Memorial Health System and Beacon Health System, an organization he led for 30 years before stepping down in 2017.

“His valuable insight, perspective and knowledge will add significant value to our organization as we continue to chart our course to address the unique needs and concerns of our community,” said Craig Harrell, director of marketing and access, in a press release.

The Center for Hospice Care, founded in 1980, has offices in South Bend, Plymouth, La Porte and Elkhart. It offers hospice, inpatient care, bereavement programs and palliative care.
