Hundreds of businesses and organizations, providing an array of services and selling a range of products, call the Region and Michiana area home.

Occasionally, one or more of these organizations as well as the people who work for them, are either honored by a group, earn special certifications or designations, or receive recognition for providing outstanding service or developing something unique. Here are some recent honors and recognitions received by individuals and organizations in Northwest Indiana Business Magazine’s coverage area:

Martay Davis, an employee of Spherion Staffing South Bend, recently was awarded a gold $5,000 grand prize as part of the office’s hiring and retention campaign, Spherion Winter Games.

All Spherion South Bend employees active on assignment and in good standing earned one entry for each week worked during the six-week campaign. At the end of each week, nine prize winners across Spherion’s nationwide network were selected to receive cash prizes, totaling $15,300 in weekly prizes. At the close of the campaign, nine grand prize winners, including Davis, were awarded a bronze, silver, or gold-level amount, bringing the campaign’s total cash prize purse to nearly $50,000.

CLA (CliftonLarsonAllen LLP), a national professional services firm, which operates CLA Schererville, is now Great Place to Work-Certified. The certification became active in January, following a December 2021 CLA employee survey and an in-depth culture submission.

Education

Mike Mussallem, a Gary native and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology alumnus and trustee, was elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering, one of the highest honors bestowed upon an engineer. He will join a list of institute alumni in the prestigious group upon induction later this year.

Valparaiso University was designated a 2022–2023 Military Friendly by VIQTORY, a service-disabled, veteran-owned small business that connects the military community to civilian employment, educational and entrepreneurial opportunities through its G.I. Jobs and Military Friendly brands The designation demonstrates the college strives toward and succeeds in the areas of helping veterans make the transition from the military to school.

Health

Franciscan Health Crown Point was reverified as a Level III Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee, an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons. This achievement recognizes the trauma center's dedication to providing optimal care for injured patients.

The American College of Cardiology has recognized Methodist Hospitals’ Northlake and Southlake campuses for each site’s demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain. Methodist was awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation in February based on rigorous onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

Northwest Health – Porter named its team member and managers of the year. Honorees were nominated by their peers for their outstanding performance and exemplary service. Libby Lavendusky, a registered nurse, was team member of the year. Stephanie Didion, a registered nurse, was clinical manager of the year and Terry Wuletich, director of specialty clinics with Northwest Medical Group, was manager of the year.

Northwest Health – La Porte was awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI by The American College of Cardiology for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain.

St. Mary Medical Center in Hobart was one of three Indiana hospitals to be recognized as High Performing in Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) by U.S. News & World Report.

Community Healthcare System was selected to participate in a clinical trial comparing the safety and efficacy of the Watchman FLX, left atrial appendage closure device against contemporary blood thinners. The device replaces long-term blood thinner use by closing the left atrial appendage to reduce stroke risk in patients with atrial fibrillation (A-Fib) not caused by a heart valve issue.
