Karin Birchel will become Burns Harbor-based Allegius Credit Union's new president and CEO on Sept. 5.
“(Birchel's) extensive background in financial services and strategic leadership will contribute to the continued success and growth of our credit union,” said Bruce Aubrey, chairman of the board at Allegius Credit Union. “We believe that Ms. Birchel is the right person to guide us in providing superior financial services and building lasting relationships with our members.”
Birchel has been vice president of credit services for the Allegius since July 2019, according to her LinkedIn page.
“I am honored and excited to lead Allegius Credit Union,” she said. “I am committed to building on the credit union's strong foundation and working collaboratively with our dedicated team to deliver exceptional value and service to our members.”
Birchel replaces Ken Zagrocki, who became the president and CEO of Allegius in 2014 after 12 years at the credit union.
Birchel also worked for hospital groups, the Porter County clerk's office and 10 years in financial services. She earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Indiana University Northwest.
Allegius Credit Union, which was founded in 1966, has four locations, including Burns Harbor, Michigan City, Hobart and Valparaiso.
