He wrote four columns a week for the "Daily Southtown" for seven years. He also handled communications for Morton Arboretum in Lisle and North Central College in Naperville. He was managing editor of "The Naperville Sun" and a reporter for the "Joliet Herald-News," among other roles. He earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Lewis University in Romeoville.
