SOUTH BEND – The physicians and staff of Memorial Regional Cancer Center welcome Thomas J. Reid III as the new Medical Director.
Reid specializes in Hematology-Medical Oncology. He earned his bachelor of science in microbiology at The Pennsylvania State University and his Ph.D. in biochemistry at Purdue University. Reid earned his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Hematology-Medical Oncology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Washington, D.C.
From 1991 to 2004, Reid was at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research; Chief of Blood Research for the last three of those years. From 2004 to 2008 he was chief of Hematology-Medical Oncology at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center; he also served as Chair of the Cancer Care Committee, Principal Investigator for Cancer and Leukemia Group B and Co-Chair of the Institutional Review Board.
Reid served 27 years in the Army Medical Corps, retiring in 2008 as a full colonel. After three years in private practice in Arkansas, he was Chief of Hematology-Medical Oncology and Oncology Program Director at MedStar Good Samaritan and MedStar Union Memorial Hospitals in Baltimore, Md., from 2011 to 2012.
