The Crossroads YMCA completed a major expansion of its Schererville location.
The former Jak’s Warehouse at 221 U.S. 41 was renovated to expand the Schererville Family YMCA by 70,000 square feet.
The community celebrated with a ribbon cutting on Oct. 19.
“We are excited to impact the Schererville community in new ways,” said Jay Buckmaster, president and CEO of Crossroads YMCA in on LinkedIn.
The expansion includes a 60,000-square-foot fitness center than includes cardio equipment; group exercise and cycling studios; indoor turf field; new Kids Club and KidZone space; and a healthy living center.
Programming paused at the location on Oct. 8 to transition programming and equipment to the expanded space.
The Crossroads YMCA had a busy month, including the opening of the Gary YMCA in the Tolleston Opportunity Campus and the announcement of a Hobart expansion.
Buckmaster’s goal for the future of Crossroads YMCA isn’t small. He wants 200,000 members in Lake County, which only has a population of about 504,000, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
“We think by 2030 we can do that,” he said.
