Calumet College of St. Joseph in Whiting will receive a $1,443,864 federal grant to improve its educational infrastructure.
The grant will be awarded through the U.S. Department of Education’s Strengthening Institutions Program.
The funds will help improve the campus' health and wellness center, kitchen and kinesiology space, among other academic and institutional initiatives.
“We will develop infrastructure and grow our endowment,” said Ron Tulley, president of Calumet College of St. Joseph, in a press release. “This award will allow us to live out our mission in a more impactful way.”
The Strengthening Institutions Program is awarding $365 million through more than 30 grants in 2026.
Other Calumet College programs that will benefit from the grant include tutoring, supplemental instruction, technology upgrades and mental health initatives.
U.S. Rep. Frank Mrvan announced the grant Oct. 1.
“Thank you to President Tulley and all of the leaders at the Calumet College of St. Joseph on successfully securing this vital funding to further support students during their academic journey,” Mrvan said. “I am grateful for your consistent and thoughtful efforts to dedicate resources that promote the well-being and academic success of all of your students.”
The college is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. It was founded in 1951.
