DJ Moore has had a busy summer. Not only did he sell his family's prize-winning Siltworm Inc., but he also is becoming part owner of Phillippe Builders Inc.
And, he will remain CEO of Erosion & Construction Solutions based in Merrillville.
“It's bittersweet to sell Siltworm Inc.,” Moore wrote on LinkedIn. “It's literally what has built the life my family and I live today. It started as a terrifying and (at the time) reckless risk that caused me to question my decision making ability. It grew into something that bought me freedom and control over my own life.”
Siltworn is a sediment filtration log or sock that traps runoff from construction and landscaping sites. Siltworm and its parent company Erosion & Construction Solutions ranked on the Inc. 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies more than once.
MKB Co. announced the acquisition of Siltworm on Sept. 9.
“Siltworm is a natural fit for MKB as we continue to expand our product offerings and invest in innovative solutions that help our customers achieve better environmental outcomes,” said Rick Costello, CEO of MKB Co. in a press release. “The Siltworm team has built a differentiated product, a strong customer following, and a reputation for innovation and service.”
Moore and his cousin Joe Moore are confident Independence, Ohio-based MKB will take care of the passion project. MKB sells products that control erosion and sediment on worksites.
“MKB shares our commitment to providing customers with high-quality products, practical solutions, and exceptional service,” said DJ Moore, CEO of Siltworm, in the MKB release. “Joining MKB gives Siltworm additional resources and reach while allowing our team to continue building on the products, relationships and reputation that have made the company successful.”
Plus Joe Moore will become MKB's vice president of market development.

Erosion & Construction Solutions was 2024 Society of Innovators at PNW inductee, and DJ Moore was the 2024 NW-ISBDC E-Day Small Business Person. The company also was included in the IEDC 2024 Entrepreneurship Indiana yearbook.
As for Phillippe Builders, DJ Moore will work alongside the Phillippe family, which founded the home-building company in Steger, Illinois, in 1959. It's current listings are in Chesterton and St. John.
