Portage is among BJ’s Wholesale Club's ambitious expansion plans this year. The Marlborough, Massachusetts-based value membership retailer's next wave of growth will include locations in Kentucky, Florida and Indiana.
The company's strategy is to open 25 to 30 clubs every two years. Kentucky and Indiana are new markets for BJ's.
“We are committed to growing our footprint in both new and existing markets to bring the value of a BJ’s Wholesale Club to even more members,” said Bill Werner, executive vice president of strategy and development, in a press release. “Coming off the strong results of our 2025 openings, the team is excited to execute on our 2026 class, deliver value and take care of the families who depend on us in these communities.”
Portage will be one of 12 new clubs to open this year, including four in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in Texas.
BJ's offers its members fresh produce, deli, onsite bakery, household items, pet supplies, toys, electronics and apparel. The clubs offer curbside pickup, delivery and a gas station for members.
The company started in New England in 1984 and has expanded to 267 clubs in 22 states.
