Chesterton Art Center hosts MLK Day event

The Chesterton Art Center is inviting the community to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. at its third annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration Jan. 19.

The theme of this year’s celebration is Art Builds Community.

Attendees will have the opportunity to create art that proclaims the power of words, by engaging in word-based art projects, including a letterpress demonstration and activity led by Ida Short of the Goshen Printmakers Guild.

Along with opportunities to make art, the program will also include an all-ages storytelling event in the Chesterton Art Center’s gallery. Personal stories, poetry readings and more are welcome.

“This annual exhibition highlights the diverse and exceptional talents of Chesterton Art Center’s members who represent a vibrant and growing creative community in the Region,” said Hannah Hammond-Hagman, Chesterton Art Center executive director, in a press release. “These participating local artists are key to CAC’s mission of fostering artistic expression and supporting regional talent.”

The exhibition will feature hundreds of artworks in a wide array of media, including painting, photography, sculpture, drawing, glass, wood and ceramics. The event is free, but registration is requested. Learn more here.
