Gary unveils mural

The City of Gary dedicated a mural to four-time Grammy Award winner and Gary-native Deniece Williams Aug. 28.

City officials and community members gathered for the dedication ceremony. The dedication featured remarks from Mayor Eddie Melton and Williams. Artist Max Sansing, who designed and painted the mural, also offered remarks. The mural is at 25th and Broadway in Gary.

Williams has a five-decade career spanning R&B, pop and gospel music. She is celebrated worldwide for her four-octave vocal range.

Williams will also be hosting the 2300 Jackson Street Block Party Aug. 30, in Gary.
