IU Northwest celebrates class of 2025

Indiana University Northwest conferred 586 degrees at its spring commencement ceremony.

Indiana University president Pamela Whitten and interim chancellor Vicki Román-Lagunas delivered addresses.

“This is your call to action,” Román-Lagunas told students. “Use your education, your talent and your heart to create a world that is more just, more compassionate and more united.”

Cindy Torres, a first-generation college student, served as student keynote speaker. Torres received a degree from the School of Business and Economics.

Nearly 30% of the graduates were first-generation college students.

“Many of us here today have walked unique paths,” Torres said. “Some are first-generation college students breaking barriers for the first time. Some have returned to school after serving our country, applying the same dedication they showed in service. Some have become parents while earning their degree, balancing sleepless nights with assignment deadlines. Some have returned to school after years of putting their dreams on hold. All of you have proved that success does not have to follow anyone else’s timeline but your own.”

The Class of 2025 collectively received 24 associate degrees, 472 bachelor’s degrees and 90 master’s degrees. The youngest graduate was 20 and the oldest was 66. Over 47% of this year's graduates were over the age of 25.

“Your journey at IU may be ending, but your connection to this university will endure,” Whitten said. “You are always welcome here, and we look forward to seeing the incredible paths you will forge.”
