Governor announces judicial appointment

Governor Eric Holcomb announced Rebecca Buitendorp has been appointed to the Porter County Circuit Court.

This marks Holcomb's 120th and final judicial appointment throughout his eight years in office.

“One of the most important constitutional responsibilities of an Indiana governor is to appoint judges to the bench, and to leave that kind of mark on our state's judiciary is very humbling,” Holcomb said in a press release. “Statewide our judges are making a difference in the lives of Hoosiers every day, and I have every confidence that Judge Buitendorp will do the same.”

Buitendorp is the deputy prosecuting attorney with the Porter County Prosecutor's Office. She has previously served in the Lake, St. Joseph and La Porte County Prosecutor’s Offices.

Buitendorp earned her undergraduate degree from Carroll College in 1998 and J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law in 2001. She will fill the vacancy created by Judge Mary DeBoer's appointment to the Court of Appeals in Sept. 2024.

Buitendorp will be sworn in as judge on a date to be determined.
