Community leaders turned a shovel on the first new neighborhood to be developed in Michigan City in 50 years.
The Woodland Ridge neighborhood, under development by Allen Edwin, is on South Woodland Ave., south of West Pahs Rd. The homes will include plans for two to five bedrooms, one to two bathrooms and two garages with options for homeowners to select.
“When the road went in, I was so excited that the project was on the right path to offer our residents another option for homeownership,” Michigan City Mayor Angie Nelson Deuitch said in a press release. “We are staying the course in this process with all of our partners and look forward to Phase 1 of Woodland Ridge taking shape.”
The first phase includes about 33 homes on the 32-acre property. Phases 2 and 3 include adding more homes in the future.
Clarence Hulse said housing has been an important topic during his tenure as Economic Development Corp. Michigan City executive director.
“Our team is honored to be part of helping bring this project to its groundbreaking and development,” Hulse said. “Homeownership has a rippling impact on communities that creates a more inclusive and prosperous space for all to thrive.”
The Economic Development Corp. Michigan City works to grow and attract new industry and business to the community. It also aims to support and strengthen existing business. The Economic Development Corp. Michigan City provides services, programs and one-on-one assistance for businesses.
